When it all began...

Back in 2011 we moved here from The Queens County Farm Museum. Here's the story of our arrival! Thanks to Just Food for the coop, help, chickens and community! Also big thanks to Citizens Committee for New York City for funding and help. Big thanks to all our volunteers that tend to these ladies every day, rain or shine!

Coopapalooza 2016

Coopapalooza was a great success! We biked around to different chicken coops in The Bronx, visited gardens, and enjoyed lunch together.

Students from the Bronx Community Charter School have visited Brook Park three times and we love them! They are fabulous students busy taking notes, noticing all the great things about the park and spending time with the chickens! Here are a few photos from their visit today! We can't wait for them to come back! I think we have some urban farmers in the bunch!d

A Visit to the Hattie Carthan Community Garden

As part of the Food Justice course at Just Food one of our volunteers takes, she visited the Hattie Carthan Garden in Brooklyn. We had a great time seeing the gardens and especially the chickens! There are 50 hens there!!! A great place to visit!

Chickens du Jour

Just an update as the Brook Park Chickens arrived just 6 weeks ago and I thought I'd give an update on our lovely hens! All seems to be going well and they are growing pretty fast! No eggs yet - but we hope they do lay some before the days get too short - we don't want to wait until spring!

All the volunteers have been amazing! They get up early to come attend to the hens, feed and water them, bring treats and clean the coop. They also make sure they are safe in their coop at night. We have also had some guest including students from a local Montessori school and we will have students from the Bronx Academy of Letters visiting on Friday, November 18th. The students will help me photograph all the hens!
